Unobtrusive small app designed to run in your Mac's menu bar and keep the display awake when you are idle but still in front of the computer #Prevent display sleep #Prevent screen dimming #Keep display awake #Display sleep #Screen dim #Prevent
When you stay in front of your Mac for extended periods of time, but you don't interact with the mouse and keyboard, the computer will automatically dim the screen, start the screensaver or go to sleep, according to the options you've configured via macOS' System Preferences.
If you don't want to go through the Energy Saver or Desktop & Screen Saver preference panes each time you need your Mac to stay awake or have the screensaver disabled, having an app specialized for this task could be an excellent time saver.
These being said, Lungo is the perfect app to have on your Mac if you need a simple and straightforward way to prevent your Mac from going to sleep and its screen from dimming with a couple of mouse clicks.
Once launched, Lungo will add a status bar item designed to provide you with a concise list of predefined amounts of time to keep your Mac's display awake.
They can be activated with a mouse click and, once the app toggles on, it will show a countdown until it stops preventing your Mac falling asleep, as well as a new option in the menu to deactivate it.
From Lungo's status bar interface you can also access its Preferences menu which allows you to configure the app to launch automatically on login, to activate as soon as it starts, and to help you enable it with a click on its status bar item, thus eliminating another couple of mouse clicks.
The Lungo sleep prevention utility also comes with a built-in dark theme to match macOS' dark menu bar and, unlike other apps designed for the same purpose, it also features Retina-ready graphics and some animations which add to its overall elegant and polished looks.
Lungo worked perfectly throughout the testing period, never needing more than 5% of a CPU core and 20 MB of RAM, and we weren't able to find it any flaws besides the lack of AppleScript support which should be added in a future release according to its developer.
In a nutshell, having Lungo in your Mac's Applications folder is an excellent choice if you require a tool to prevent your Mac from going into sleep mode, to dim the screen or to start the screensaver with just a couple of mouse clicks.
