Unobtrusive macOS utility designed to automatically move and zoom the windows on your Mac's desktop, with support for multi-display and layout profiles #Window layout #Arrange windows #Resize windows #Window #Layout #Resize
It is quite hard for users who use a lot of apps at the same time to keep their windows neatly arranged on their Macs' desktop, but, for such a purpose and to make your life a lot easier, you can use a utility specially designed to help you resize and zoom windows.
LayAuto is a macOS application designed with this particular goal in mind, but with a twist: it will do it on its own, using a collection of layout rules you define via its Preferences window for each of the apps you have on your Mac or for the ones you use more often.
If you like controlling windows on your own, LayAuto can also be used to rapidly and effortlessly move any app's windows on the desktop via global keyboard shortcuts which can also be customized.
Once launched, LayAuto will ask you to allow it to control your Mac by checking its entry in the System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Accessibility preference pane.
Once the initial setup process is over, you can use LayAuto's status bar menu to change the layout for the current window, or, as mentioned above, you can create complex window layout profiles via the Layouts preferences tab.
You can quickly activate the layout profiles either by using the global keyboard shortcut you've chosen when creating each profile or by clicking it in LayAuto's status bar menu.
Via LayAuto's General preferences tab you can also set the app to launch automatically on startup and to hide its status bar item, with the option to access its Preferences window each time you start the utility again.
LayAuto allows you to customize its global keyboard shortcuts via the Hotkeys preferences tab, with the "Layout current Window," "Layout All," "Move to another display," and "Auto layout toggle" being the hotkeys which can be changed.
If you want to lay out windows on your desktop manually and don't want to rely on its automatic window organization feature, LayAuto also makes it possible to toggle its auto layout engine on and off.
In a nutshell, LayAuto is a highly useful app with multi-monitor support capable of arranging windows on your Mac's desktop automatically or via global keyboard shortcuts, easily customizable via its Preferences window.
