Laverna For Mac

Laverna is a note taking utility that helps you organize text snippets into notebooks and use an encryption key to protect everything. The app also offers you the option to work with multiple profiles.

Laverna comes with a default profile active by default, so you can start using the utility right out of the box: define your first notebook and proceed to add new entries. The note editor comes with three viewing modes: full screen, preview, or normal.

This way, you get to decide if you need to focus exclusively on the text (full screen), or you want to deal with the formatting also (preview). The normal view tends to be preferable whenever you need to take quick notes.

Within the Laverna note editor, you get to use Markdown tags for the formatting, but the utility also integrates a couple of buttons for the frequently used functions. You can insert images or hyperlinks, highlight code snippets, and so on.

Laverna offers you the possibility to quickly generate an encryption key that will be used to protect the data stored within the application.

The user defined passkey is required each time you open the application, and will unlock all the profiles. Keep in mind that it cannot be recovered in case it gets lost.

At the moment, you can store everything locally: you should be able to use your Dropbox account to sync the data to all your devices, but we weren’t able to activate the service during our tests.

Laverna proposes an alternative solution for dealing with notes: you get to use Markdown for the formatting, you can organize them into notebooks and signal the ones that are your favorite, and you can encrypt all the data to keep it safe.

To make everything even more straightforward, Laverna comes with a collection of keybindings that help you deal with frequent tasks via the keyboard. Note that you get to change the default combinations.

However, take into consideration that the Laverna project is still under development, and some of the functions might not work as expected.
