Keystats For Mac

Keystats is a minimalist macOS keylogger application that records your activity and automatically generates usage statistics. The app includes each key press in an SQLite3 database, but in the app’s user interface you can see only the statistical information.

The first time you try to run the application, Keystats lets you know that to be able to record the keystrokes, the utility has to be included in the list of assistive devices that can control your computer.

Just navigate to the Security & Privacy panel in the System Preferences window, jump to the Privacy tab, and check the Keystats entry included in the Accessibility list. Naturally, you will have to provide the admin password to be able to make changes.

All you have to do next is restart the Keystats application, and everything should be configured. Note that Keystats records your keystrokes only when running, so you might also want to add it to the login items lists.

Within the Keystats main window, you can see the date and time for the earliest keystroke that has been registered. You get to see the total number of keystrokes, but also the statistics for the current day, week, or month.

Once the Keystats application gathers enough data, it will also plot a graph depicting the number of keystrokes for each day in the last 29 days. The chart also includes a representation of the average number of strokes recorded each week.

Note that Keystats will log the keystrokes time (using the yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss format) the key type and code, the ASCII representation, and the front-most application.

Keystats places the data in the /Library/Application Support/Keystats/keystrokes database, but the utility does not have malicious intent.

Within the Keystats main window, you get access only to the statistical information and the automatically generated graphs.
