A very powerful application that was developed in order to help its users split and join multiple files with ease, while also calculating their checksum. #Split file #Join files #Verify checksum #Split #Join #Verify
Nowadays it's significantly easier to store or transport gigabytes worth of files due to the substantial increase of storage capacity and transfer speeds for portable or “on the fly” devices. Worth mentioning are USB sticks, external hard drives and cloud-based solutions. And yet you may still find yourself in need of a mere file split for space, security or logistics purposes without the additional steps of an encryption and CPU-intensive process that pieces of archiving software are prone to.
That's where JFSplit offers a viable solution to your flexibility and security concerns.
It's a Java-based cross-platform application. Plus, there are no registry entries catching roots into your system, as it does not require installation. You can directly run the executable file.
Regardless if you just take it for a spin or thoroughly investigate, you'll be pleased to discover the parameters and conditions thought by the developers bringing a plus in terms of customization concerning size, flexibility and arrangement.
You can instruct JFSplit to divide files into a certain number of equally sized chunks, or determine a splitting threshold, which is an interval of bytes where the software application will separate, like a tag (a chunk at every 30 mb, for example). The last option leaves an irregular chunk, smaller than the echelon you established.
Joining is seamlessly performed as well, either by handpicking segments or fully automating the process with the help of a file finder that identifies them by trace or signature. Apart from that, it's your decision if the source files are to be deleted after joining or not. The file format or extension that it works with is .jfs.
Another important feature is the integrity checker through a checksum algorithm, even though it's a bit rudimentary, as it uses CRC-32.
Four main tabs are present, “Split Files”, “Join Files”, “Checksum” and “About”, with simple functionality, especially if you play a bit with it to get used to, so no worries about those who haven't spent a lot of time operating computers.
It performs much faster and with lesser strain on CPU and RAM memory than a conventional archiving tool. Files that are divided cannot be individually opened, so it offers a simple, yet effective feature as well.
Your system will barely feel its presence, and for the nifty features that it offers, you really can't go wrong with JFSplit.
