Iris mini For Mac

Asthenopia (eye strain in layman terms) is a serious problem for anyone who uses a computer each day for long hours. To protect your eyes from this eye condition, you can either shorten your work hours in front of a computer or utilize an app specifically designed to protect your eyes.

Iris mini is one such utility, a minimalist and unobtrusive macOS application capable of preventing eye fatigue by reducing your Mac's display brightness and color temperature without decreasing its flicker rate.

Moreover, by default, Iris mini will lower or increase your monitor's color temperature value automatically, and the display will have a more yellow- or blue-tinted look depending on the current time of day

Upon starting up on your Mac, Iris mini will add a status bar item which enables you to switch between the app's three modes of operation: Automatic, Manual and Paused.

In Automatic mode, Iris mini will set a color temperature of 5000K and a brightness of 100%, while at night it will lower the two values to 3400K and 80% brightness to reduce the amount of blue light hitting your eyes.

This way, your body melatonin production will not be affected and, given that melatonin is the hormone responsible for a good night sleep, you will be able to rest appropriately.

When switching to the Manual mode from Iris mini' status bar menu, the app sets the color temperature to the 3400K night value and the brightness to 80%. Thus, you can force your Mac's display to release a lower amount of blue light and luminance to allow your eyes to rest for a while when needed.

Lastly, Iris mini also enables you to pause it by toggling on the Paused mode, which means that your monitor's color temperature and brightness will automatically be reset to the default values.

On the whole, Iris mini is an excellent choice of an app to have in your Mac's Applications folder if you want to protect your eyes from strain and fatigue with little to no effort on your part.
