The ID3 tags which are usually included in Mp3 files are able to store metadata such as the song’s name, the artist’s name, the album, the track number, the release year, the musical genre and much more.

Unfortunately, in some cases, these tags get mixed up and you need an application that can view and edit the MP3 metadata in order to fix the situation. ID3Mod2 is a simple application that tries to do that by changing the ID3 encoding.

ID3Mod2 is designed to work with Double Byte Character Systems (DBCS) that are used for languages such as Korean, Chinese, Japanese or any other language that is not using the ISO-8859-1 encoding.

The application will scan your iTunes library and allows you to select the encoding for each track from a drop down menu. At the same time, by pressing the Artwork/Comment button from the top toolbar, you can access a separate panel where you can import a new cover image and write down your impressions.

Other notable features include the fact that you can listen to each song within the application or batch process tracks. What’s more, you can backup your iTunes library or choose to synchronize it to a folder.

ID3Mod2 is a simple application that should be able to modify the ID3 encoding of your MP3 files, as long as they are not using the ISO-8859-1 encoding.
