HotKey For Mac

HotKey is a minimalist utility that aims to streamline your workflow by enabling you to launch apps or open folders via custom hotkeys.

The HotKey app also comes with a companion status bar menu that you can use instead of working with the hotkeys.

Right off the bat, HotKey places its menulet in the status bar, and you get to see the two predefined hotkeys: one for the Terminal application and one for the built-in tool that allows you to see the content of your clipboard.

Note that HotKey only displays what is currently in your clipboard in a panel that is placed on top of your desktop. You do not have the option to select pieces of text, and so on.

Just open the Preferences window and start adding the apps or folders you want to open using the launcher. After each addition, you must input the hotkey you want to use. If you don’t provide any, you will have to go through the HotKey status bar menu.

Working with the application is quite straightforward: just configure the hotkeys you want to use and you are done. HotKey comes with almost no customization options except that: you cannot change the menu’s appearance, and you cannot hide the status bar menu.

However, you can choose to hide the Dock icon and decide to launch the app at login: this way, you will have access to all hotkeys right away. Naturally, you can change already defined hotkeys anytime you like.

The HotKey status bar menu is great whenever you forget a particular hotkey, but it would be nice if it could be hidden altogether so the user can decide if it is needed or not.
