Hide My Bar For Mac

The MacBook Pro Touch Bar is quite polarizing. Many people dislike the lack of physical function keys, while others like the expanded functionality. Even if you love it, it can be distracting at times, and accidental taps are all too common.

Hide My Bar does exactly what you'd expect. It lets you turn off the Touch Bar at will by double-tapping a selected key. Essential controls can still be accessed from the app's menu bar icon if you prefer.

By default, you need to double-tap Cmd to hide or show the Touch Bar, but you can select any other modifier key. If your MacBook lacks a physical Esc key, the app can leave it in the Touch Bar at all times, even when the latter is disabled.

Screen brightness, keyboard brightness, and volume controls can be displayed in the app's menu if you wish.  Just click the menu bar icon to adjust any of these without turning on the Touch Bar.

Hide My Bar also allows you to use the function keys, but it may require some additional configuration. First off, make sure your Touch Bar is set to display either App Controls or the Expanded Control Strip. Then, from the app's preferences, select the modifier key you would like to use to display the function keys.

In trying to be innovative, Apple went and fixed what wasn't broken by replacing the classic function keys on the MacBook Pro. While certainly a cool feature, the fact that it replaces physical keys that have been on keyboards since they were invented can make the Touch Bar difficult to get used to.

With Hide My Bar, it will be a bit easier to avoid errors and distractions on your MacBook Pro. Hide the Touch Bar when you don't need it, and avoid tapping something by accident and messing up your work.
