Hide menu bar items and avoid clutter without removing the icons altogether, using this impressively straightforward and lightweight app. #Hide Icon #Icon Hider #Hide Menu Bar #Menu Bar #Hide #Icon
You can remove and rearrange menu bar icons fairly easily, but we've come all the way to Catalina without a way to hide menu bar items aside from simply removing them. Thankfully, there are plenty of third-party developers out there willing to tackle this issue.
Essentially, Hidden Bar allows you to specify which icons in the menu bar should be displayed at all times and which should be shown only when required. They remain there for quick access, but icons that are only used rarely won't clutter your menu bar needlessly.
When you launch the app, two new icons will appear in the menu bar: an arrow and a vertical bar. The former is used to hide and reveal icons, while the latter separates items that should be visible at all times from those that should usually be hidden.
To configure everything, simply hold down ⌘ and drag icons to move them. Items you wish to hide should be placed to the left of the separator, while the arrow can be placed anywhere, as it is only used to hide and reveal icons.
By default, items can be shown or hidden only by clicking the arrow. However, you can also configure the app to hide them automatically after 5 to 60 seconds, and a global hotkey can also be set to handle the function.
Most users will probably disable the app's Dock icon pretty quickly, but there is no option to hide the menu bar arrow icon as well. While it doesn't take up too much space, some people might want to manage their menu bar icons using the global shortcut alone.
There really isn't much more to say about Hidden Bar, aside from the fact that Apple should really just add this feature to macOS one of these days. In any case, if you're looking for a way to hide certain menu bar icons, you can't really go wrong with this app.
