Thanks to GrowlTunes you no longer have to guess the name of the song and the artist who sings the currently played track because you will be able to see it.

GrowlTunes is a handy and very easy-to-use notification application that allows you to view the name of the song played in iTunes. It offers you playback controls and enables you to change the rating of the track and adjust the sound volume. On top of that you can quit either iTunes, GrowlTunes or both by accessing the status bar menu.

On top of that, if you have Growl installed, you can view even the album artwork and customize the way the looks of the track change notification. The Preferences window helps you change the type of information displayed in the notification. As a result, you can select the media type for which you will receive notifications (music, music video, show, podcast or movie), and decide what information will be displayed in the title and description box by adding or removing tags.

The available tags cover everything from song, album artist and artist name, play time and description to episode, episode ID or number, long or short description, season number, stream title, track number, video kind and track count.

What is more, the General tab under the Preferences window helps you can change the icon position and set GrowlTunes to run in the menu, the dock and even in the background. You can also access the Shortcuts tab in order to define the keyboard shortcuts for controlling GrowlTunes, the volume and the playback.
