Map your gamepad's controls, define thresholds for pressure-sensitive buttons and triggers and switch between presets easily, with this simple application #Gamepad mapper #Controller mapper #Button threshold #Gamepad #Controller #Mapper
While developers usually try to make their games compatible with as many controllers as possible, some devices are more difficult to accommodate. One example would be the SteelSeries Nimbus, which has mostly pressure-sensitive buttons that need to be pressed down fully to trigger a keypress.
Gamepad Menu is a lightweight application that can help you out with this problem, as it enables you to map your controller’s buttons, as well as adjust the threshold for pressure-sensitive buttons and triggers. It is primarily focused on the SteelSeries Nimbus but offers support for other devices as well.
Once you have installed the application and connected your controller, you can access the Gamepad Menu status bar icon to switch between the available presets.
The application can also be configured to run automatically when you log in, so you will always have your customized controller presets at the ready.
Some of the controls on your gamepad, such as the analog triggers on the Xbox 360 controller, are designed to register a whole range of motion, not just a button press. This can get become problematic when, in certain games, you have to press them down firmly just to trigger a keypress.
Gamepad Menu makes it possible to adjust the button threshold, so that a simple tap is enough to send the configured command. Moreover, it includes a thresholding stickiness filter to prevent accidental double button presses.
Unfortunately, Gamepad Menu does not offer a GUI for creating or editing device profiles and presets. In order to perform these modifications, you have to find the respective .plist files in the application bundle and open them in your preferred text editor.
In short, Gamepad Menu is a great tool if you wish to map the controls on your gamepad and switch between several configurations quickly, especially if you also need to adjust the threshold on pressure-sensitive buttons or triggers.
However, you can only create or modify profiles and presets by editing .plist files, as no user interface is provided for this purpose.
