Funny Reader is an entertaining and amusing application specially designed to read your text in various languages using Mac OS X’s Text to Speech capabilities.

Funny Reader is a straightforward speech synthesizer that will read in the desired voice any text snippet or fragment you provide. You can choose between more than thirty different voices including Bells, Bubbles, Boing, Bad News, Cellos, Deranged, Good News, Hysterical, Pipe Organ, Princess, Trionoids, Whisper, Zavrox and more.

Funny Reader comes with a simple and intuitive interface that allows you to type or paste your phrase, text fragment or word. The Voices panel helps you select the desired voice from the pre-defined list while the Speed panel allows you to adjust the speed of the voice by simply moving the slider to the right for faster and to the left for a slower reading speed.

When you are happy with your settings you can click on the Read button to start the reading process and interrupt it by clicking on the Stop button. On the current version, there are a total of thirty-eight voice from which you can choose.

However, keeping in mind that Funny Reader uses your Mac OS X’s Text to Speech capabilities, you should know that the total number of available voices can differ depending on the version of the operating system you are running. Hence, if you have a Mac running Snow Leopard you will have access to twenty-four voices but, if you use Mavericks you can use up to thirty-eight different voices.

Although, Funny Reader’s interface is nice and easy-to-use, this feature alone cannot justify the price tag. You can use the same voices and even more and adjust the speaking rate via the System Preferences’ Dictation & Speech panel. Moreover, you can read any text you want by accessing the context menu and the Speech feature in TextEdit or any other text editor.

As it is, Funny Reader is a light and simple application that can offer on single advantage over Mac OS X’s Text to Speech capabilities: the fact that the text panel and the voice selection panel are both within the same window.
