FormatMatch For Mac

FormatMatch is a free and very handy macOS application designed to remove the original formatting when copy-pasting text from a source (email, webpage, documents, etc.) to a document. The app works seamlessly in the background and can be activated / deactivated with the press of a keyboard combination.

After installing FormatMatch, you will notice an extra icon on the menu bar. Clicking on it will open the app’s panel where you can access the preferences or disable / enable the app’s functionality. Thankfully, FormatMatch works out of the box and no extra configuration is needed, besides setting the global hotkey to activate / deactivate it.

When copying heavily formatted text from a webpage or email and pasting the contents into a rich text document, the formatting will disappear. In other words, the app automatically detects and removes formatting (such as font type and size, typeface, hyperlinks and copied images) and keeps only the plain text.

In the Preferences window, you can command the app to automatically start at computer login and to disable the system bar button. If you select the latter option, you can re-enable the icon from the Launchpad or by opening the app in the Finder.

In short, FormatMatch is a practical and time-effective utility for any user who constantly copies and pastes text from sources with rich text. It eliminates the need to paste and re-copy the text in another app to remove formatting by automatically removing it in the initial copy-paste process.
