Add multiple folders to the menu bar as a quick way to open them, launch apps, access items and subfolders, view file info, and more #Folder Shortcut #App Launcher #File Manager #Folder #Launcher #Shortcut
Finder definitely has its limitations when it comes to providing quick access to files and folders, which can limit the efficiency and multitasking capabilities of power users.
Folder Peek is an interesting app that lets you place quick access folders in the menu bar, where you can interact with their files and subfolders, launch apps, view file details, or just open them in various applications. It offers extensive customization options and is very easy to use.
A basic use case would be to add a folder that contains files you need to access frequently. It can be displayed in the menu bar as either an icon, title, or icon+title. When you click on it, you will see a menu that lists all the files and subfolders within. By default, all items in the folder will be displayed, sorted by name. The sort order and maximum number of items can be customized.
You can add multiple folders, each with its own icon, preferences, and global keyboard shortcut. Clicking on a file or folder in the menu will open it or take you to its location in Finder, and previews are displayed for media content and documents.
Say you want to add your Applications folder to the menu bar, but you only really need to have a few apps show up in there. If the sorting and filtering options aren’t enough, you can just create a folder somewhere on your Mac, fill it with aliases to the apps you need, then add the newly created directory to Folder Peek.
This same method works for other folders and files. You can even create a directory that contains aliases to a bunch of other folders in order to group all of them into a single menu bar item.
There are countless use cases for an app like Folder Peek. Anything you might want to have in the menu bar, such as the most recent files added to a certain directory, can be set up easily. The software is lightweight and intuitive, and documentation is readily available to help you figure out everything you can do with it. And on top of everything, it’s entirely free.
