Folder Hub For Mac

If you’re relying only on Finder, it normally takes a few steps to access frequently-used files or folders, especially if they’re buried in a stack of subfolders.

Folder Hub is one way to speed things up. It provides a convenient panel that is accessed from the top of your screen, or from under the notch if you have a MacBook. It allows you to create custom workspaces that contain files, folders, and apps.

To open the panel, simply move your cursor to the upper edge of the screen, or to the area where the notch is on a MacBook. You can also use a hotkey. The panel will disappear when you move the cursor away, but it can also be pinned to keep it open at all times.

Unlike some similar apps, Folder Hub doesn’t provide temporary storage. It simply makes it easier to access certain files or folders, and you can also use the context menu to open them with specific apps, navigate to their location, and more.

When setting up a workspace, you can choose a unique icon and select one or more files or folders. In Folders mode, only selected files and directories are shown. In Subfolders mode, all contained files and directories are shown.

The process is simple enough, but it would have been nice if drag and drop was supported, as it would make adding folders a lot easier. Similarly, I’d like to be able to drop files directly into the panel to add them to a workspace.

Folder Hub is quite easy to use, easily customizable, and unobtrusive. It doesn’t offer a ton of functionality, though, so a subscription may be a tough sell for the full version. The developer does seem open to expanding the app’s feature set, however, and you can still use up to three workspaces with the free edition.
