Fog For Mac

Overcast is a service that allows you to listen to podcasts in a web browser or use the available iOS app to play them on your iPhone or iPad.

Fog is an open source and unofficial Overcast client that makes it possible for you to perform these actions on your Mac, without having to use a web browser or a mobile device.

Essentially, Fog offers the same functions as the Overcast web app, although it does improve upon it with the addition of some handy keyboard shortcuts for controlling playback and navigating between episodes.

Unfortunately, due to limitations in Overcast's official web interface that cannot be bypassed, many useful features found in the official iOS app are not available within Fog, such as the Smart Speed and Voice Boost functions, notifications or the ability to create and manage custom playlists.

You can, however, search for new podcasts, manage your subscriptions and generate episode URLs that can be shared with others.

When playing an episode, you can alter playback speed, which allows you to get through a podcast more quickly, as long as the higher voice pitch does not bother you.

Assuming your keyboard is equipped with them, you can use the media keys to start or pause playback, as well as seek forward or backward, even if Fog is not the frontmost app.

The application’s interface is minimalistic and easy-to-use, and, minus a limited number of changes added by Fog's developer, it perfectly mirrors the web user interface created by Marco Arment for its Overcast iOS app.

On the whole, Fog is a straightforward utility that functions as a native Overcast client for macOS that makes it easy for you to continue listening to your podcasts on your Mac's desktop.
