File Peek is a streamlined and user-friendly hexadecimal viewer and editor, designed from the ground up to provide you with all the tools you would need for such a task.
Moreover, to open a file with File Peek you can use the Open option in the File menu, the ⌘ + O keyboard shortcut, or drag and drop the file (or files) onto its icon.
Once it loads the file, File Peek will welcome you with a tab-based user interface, separated into two: the Info & Hashes tab and the Hex Editor.
To begin with, via the Info & Hashes tab, you can view the file's MD5, SHA1, and SHA256 hashes and copy them to your clipboard. Also, you can inspect and edit the file's creation and modified dates, using a calendar and digital clock based control.
In File Peek's Info & Hashes tab, you can also save and copy the automatically calculated Base64 encoding for the current file, for easier and simpler embedding within your latest web app or any other type of development project where you may need it.
The next step is to go to File Peek's second user interface tab where you can view and edit the file in hexadecimal encoding. Via this tab, you can also make use of the inbuilt find and replace engine designed to give you everything you need to replace any text or hex string in a blink of an eye.
It's also important to mention that File Peek also enables you to open multiple files at once by drag and dropping them onto its dock icon. This allows you to effortlessly compare their hashes, creation and modification dates, as well as their contents, in hexadecimal encoding.
Once opened in File Peek, you can rapidly merge all of the windows using the app's "Merge All Windows" option available in the Window menu.
Taking all said in consideration, File Peek is the app you need on your Mac if you want a straightforward and easy to use hex viewer and editor, as well as a quick way of generating MD5, SHA1, or SHA256 hashes for your files.
