While MacBooks and other notebooks have evolved a lot over the years, battery power is still one of the main factors that limit their usefulness.

Endurance is a lightweight macOS app that can improve your battery’s lifespan by performing a range of actions when power levels drop below a preset level.

The only indication that Endurance is up and running is the new icon displayed in your Mac’s status bar, which can be accessed to modify the app’s settings.

If you have chosen to have the application enable power saving mode automatically, you can just sit back and get on with your other tasks, without having to worry about launching the app’s various modules once battery power drops below a certain level.

To begin with, Endurance can automatically turn off Turbo mode, preventing your processor from using up too much battery power, although your device will run a bit slower.

Your MacBook’s display uses up a lot of power, especially when its brightness is set to a very high level. Endurance can slowly dim it over time, to reduce consumption without being too noticeable.

Applications that are hidden use up fewer resources, so Endurance can automatically hide the ones that are in the background. It also monitors apps that are particularly taxing and suggests which of them should be shut down to reduce battery usage further.

Endurance allows you to choose if power saving mode should be enabled automatically and the battery level at which this should occur. However, you cannot, for example, have the app activate specific modules when power drops below certain levels.

It is not possible to specify how much screen brightness should be lowered, select which processes should be monitored or prevent certain apps from being hidden.

Endurance is a useful tool that can extend the lifespan of your MacBook’s battery. It can perform multiple actions to reduce power usage, but would benefit from a greater degree of customization.
