Double Shot For Mac

Double Shot is a minimalist OS X utility that handles a very simple task: it prevents you Mac from going to sleep or activating the screensaver for a given period of time, or until additional user interference.

By default, if you want to make sure your Mac will not go to sleep or will not activate the screensaver, you need to navigate to the Energy Saver panel in the System Preferences window and make the necessary adjustments.

The action has to be repeated whenever you need to go back to a more energy conscious configuration. Unfortunately, this leads to a lot of repetitive actions, and might end up with wasting energy if you forget to revert the modifications.

Double Shot is a small OS X utility that reduces all that to a simple mouse click, and also signals your current settings in the status bar. This way, you can preserve the same settings in the System Preferences at all times, and simply prevent the operating system for performing the task for a definite period.

Usually, modifying the energy saving settings is necessary when you are using your computer for presentations or watching movies. During this times, you are not actively using the computer, which might trigger the energy saving responses.

To prevent that from happening, just navigate to the Double Shot status bar menu and effortlessly activate the app’s capabilities. When you are done, use the same method to disable the service and the system-wide energy saving settings will be working again.

For your convenience, Double Shot also comes with predefined timers (15 min, 30 min, 1 hour, or 3 hours), that will automatically disable the application when the counter is done. Unfortunately, you don’t have the option to set custom timers.

Bottom line, Double Shot provides an alternative solution for dealing with turning on and off the energy saving functions for your system while reducing the repetitive actions to a minimum.

However, the app does not come with any kind of customization options, and has to be present in your status bar at all times.
