Displays automatically detects all monitors connected to your Mac and offers you the possibility to manage their resolutions from the status bar, without having to go through the System Preferences.
However, the Displays application also facilitates accessing the Displays customization panel and packs additional features meant to improve your overall experience.
Within the Displays status bar menu, you get to see the list of connected monitor, together with information about their size, vendor, serial number, panel, color profile, video card, and manufactured date.
The same Displays menu enables you to change the current screen resolution, choose to rotate the screen image to various degrees, and grab a screenshot (it will capture the entire screen and comes with a 3 seconds delay by default).
Displays will hide the small resolutions that might not look good on your screen, but you can change that via the app’s Preferences. The same area allows you to modify the way in which the resolutions are grouped, to include the aspect ratio info in the list, or to add labels to each value.
The Displays application also features a collection of additional functions designed to help you deal with small yet frequently encountered issues. The virtual pointer and the fact that you can hide your desktop icons will prove very useful during presentations.
At the same time, the picture-in-picture function offers you the possibility to view the screen of a connected display on the primary monitor, which is great if the secondary devices are in another room.
The integrated Night Mode is also worth mentioning: once enabled, Displays will switch to the dark theme, and reduce both the screen brightness and the blue light level.
Displays keeps track of all available monitors and offers you the possibility to change the screen resolution and change the image orientation in no time, without having to switch to the System preferences.
The Displays utility also brings to the table a couple of additional functions and customization options that can improve the user experience during presentations, or when working during nighttime.
