Dext For Mac

Dext is a minimalist smart launcher tool that has been inspired by the Alfred project and works on JavaScript. The utility comes with a system-wide hotkey and relies on various plug-ins to run all sorts of tasks.

Once installed, you can see the Dext icon in the Dock, but keep in mind that you must use the Option + Space hotkey in order to view the associated search bar. Otherwise, the app will not make its presence known in any way.

Naturally, you can include Dext in the list of items that automatically launch at login. As a result, you will have access to its capabilities at all times without performing any particular configurations.

Dext comes with three plug-ins installed by default that allow you to perform searches in your Google Chrome bookmarks collection, to run simple calculations, or quickly activate the screensaver.

However, on the Dext project page, you also get access to various additional plug-ins developed by the community. Simply download the archive for the plug-in you want to install and navigate to your home directory and look for the .dext folder. Move the files in the appropriate folder included in the dext directory.

The same location will also include the config.json file that can be used to configure the Dext launcher further. Note that you can also use the dpm command line tool to manage the plug-ins.
