Powerful, versatile, and easy-to-use translator that can process entire documents, clipboard text, and even text extracted from screen captures #Translate Text #Translate Document #Extract Text #Translate #Translator #Translation
Everyone has access to Google Translate, which is ideal for translating small bits of text every now and again. However, for daily work, something that has better macOS integration would be a lot more efficient.
That’s exactly what DeepL aims to offer. It makes it easy to add text with a simple hotkey, it can extract and process text from screenshots, as well as translate whole documents, in addition to offering lots of other helpful tools.
Say you’re browsing the web and find some text that needs to be translated. All you need to do is select it and press ⌘+C+C, and the text will be opened in DeepL, ready to be processed. If the output language is already selected, the translated text will be available instantly.
Of course, you can also bring up the UI and paste the text manually. If the text can’t be selected, you can grab a screenshot using ⌘⇧2 (the shortcut needs to be enabled in the app’s preferences), and the text will be extracted and prepared for translation.
For business users, it’s common to have numerous files that need to be translated as quickly as possible. DeepL supports PDF, DOCX, PPTX, along with HTML and TXT in the Pro version, and it can process multiple documents at once.
Because of the limitations in the Free edition, this feature is mostly geared towards paid users. Nevertheless, you can still translate three documents per month as a free user, as long as they’re not too big.
When you send text to DeepL, you can listen to both the original and translated version being spoken, which helps a lot with spotting errors and learning pronunciation. A built-in dictionary also gives you more details about any selected word.
Once you’re happy with a translation, you can insert it back into the source application. This can really speed things up when processing small blocks of text.
Overall, DeepL is an amazingly capable and easy-to-use translation tool. The free edition is perfectly usable if you don’t need to translate very large texts, and it has excellent macOS integration that helps you get your work done as efficiently as possible.
