If you are a gamer, a new Mac OS X user or you just want to adjust the mouse or trackpad acceleration settings, then Decelerator is the application that can help you out.

Decelerator is a simple and very easy-to-use application that can help you customize the acceleration settings of your MacBook’s trackpad, Magic Trackpad or mouse with just a few mouse clicks. From Decelerator’s main window you can easily enable or enable the application and toggle the trackpad or mouse acceleration.

On top of that, you can reset the acceleration level to the default value for both the mouse and the trackpad and manually adjust their acceleration level by moving the corresponding sliders. You can configure Decelerator to disable all settings on exit.

Although you can access the System Preferences window and change the tracking speed of your mouse and trackpad, you cannot actually change the default acceleration settings. Most gamers prefer to disable mouse acceleration entirely and take advantage of their “twitch” reflexes.

If you decide to turn the mouse acceleration off, the on-screen distance will correspond to the exact distance your hand needs to move and, as a result, the speed with which you move the mouse will not influence the distance traveled by the mouse cursor.

New Mac OS X users might appreciate a lower mouse acceleration until they get used with the new operating system. At the same time, other Mac users prefer a higher acceleration settings since it can help them reach different corners of the screen faster and easier.

We would appreciate Decelerator even more, if it allowed its users to hide the Dock icon and access it’s main window through a status bar menu. Since it is the first public release, we hope that we will see various improvements in the updates to come.
