Day & Night For Mac

Changing your Mac's desktop wallpaper is a something that can make you more productive by reducing the eye strain if it features appropriate colors for the time of day you're sitting in front of your computer.

Day & Night is a discreet and minimalist macOS utility designed to run in your Mac's status bar and automatically switching between a pair of wallpapers depending on the time of day, just like its name suggests.

Thus, when the sun rises, Day & Night will switch to a lighter colored wallpaper you can choose from your Mac's hard drive either by clicking on the wallpaper selection screen or by dragging and dropping it on the app's window.

On the other hand, when the sun sets, the Day & Night app will change the wallpaper to a darker colored one you can pick using the same wallpaper selection dialog.

Besides using sunset and sunrise to automate the wallpaper changing process, Day & Night also allows you to set up custom hours in the day when you need it to switch between the two wallpapers you've chosen.

It is crucial to say that the first time you run  Day & Night on your Mac, it will require you to allow it to use your computer's location to be able to track the sunrise and sunset times on its own.

If you deny it the permissions to do it on the first run, you can still toggle them on from the System Preferences app in the Security & Privacy > Privacy > Location Services tab.

Day & Night also has a Premium set of features which give you the option to set it to change the wallpaper on all your monitors at the same time, as well as run Unix, AppleScript, or Automator Workflow scripts which can perform various actions such as also toggle dark mode on and off.

Even though being a well-thought and handy little tool, Day & Night still comes with a few small flaws such as a superfluous Services menu which should be removed as it doesn't add any useful features or options.
