Switches your Mac between dark and light mode based on the level of ambient light, using the device's ambient light sensor, with customizable parameters #Dark Mode Switch #Ambient Light #Switch Theme #Ambient #Dark Mode #Theme
macOS comes with a feature that allows it to switch between Dark and Light mode automatically, but it isn't always the best solution. The indoor lighting level doesn't necessarily coincide with sunrise/sunset times, and you can't really fine-tune the switch time in any way.
DarkModeBuddy is an interesting alternative that uses the ambient light sensor most Macs come equipped with to detect when it's time to switch between the Dark and Light themes. When your room gets brighter, it will activate Light mode automatically, and then switch back to Dark mode when the ambient light level falls below a certain value.
The app can be launched at login automatically, and you can configure when the switch will happen. It might take a bit of fine-tuning, but you should be able to find the ideal ambient light level when you want the switch to occur.
Moreover, you can add a delay to prevent the app from switching to a different theme when the room gets brighter/dimmer just for a few seconds, like when you briefly turn on a light. It might be a good idea to set the delay to a pretty high value just to avoid constant switches when the light level fluctuates around the threshold.
