Cronica is an open-source app that leverages the power of TMDb (The Movie Database) to give you all the information you need in one neat package. It helps you find titles, manages your watchlist, and notifies you when something new is available for viewing.

Since you start up with just a movie/show database and no personal information, you’ll need to figure out how you want to use the app, and then customize the local database to suit your needs.

You can add titles to your watchlist, create lists to organize movies and shows, check the ones you’ve already watched, and mark your favorites. While this is easy enough for the most part, it can get annoying with shows that you’re not fully caught up on, as you can’t mark only a certain number of episodes as watched.

All the information you get is delivered straight from TMDb, so it’s as comprehensive as you can expect. Once you add things to your watchlist, you’ll receive recommendations based on your preferences and be notified when new episodes or movies can be watched.

The user interface is simple but functional, though it can sometimes be difficult to navigate through the large number of categories, and content doesn’t always load as quickly as you’d like.

Nowadays, you have plenty of web services that offer similar features, including TMDb. There’s nothing quite as convenient as a simple app, however, especially when it comes with features like desktop notifications and menu bar integration.

Cronica can still be improved, but it’s already a useful tool if you’re struggling to organize your watchlist currently. It’s also free and open-source, and it’s available on every Apple device you might own.
