CameraController For Mac

USB cameras tend to have various customizable settings, but the official software available for them is usually lackluster. You often have to install a device management suite intended for every peripheral the manufacturer offers, in the hundreds of megabytes, just to change a few webcam settings.

CameraController was designed as an alternative to proprietary software, or as an option when this software is missing altogether. It allows you to manage a wide range of parameters from a simple interface, and it supports all devices that can be controlled via UVC.

The app itself comes in a very small package, and it’s written in Swift, so no Electron nonsense here. No need to go through an installation process either — just launch the app, and you should be able to select your connected camera from the drop-down menu.

The interface is similarly streamlined, with three tabs that house basic and advanced settings, as well as the app’s preferences.

From the Basic tab, you can control exposure, brightness, contrast, saturation, sharpness, and white balance. Certain settings can also be left on auto. The Advanced tab lets you set the powerline frequency, backlight compensation, zoom, pan, and tilt, as well as manually adjust focus. A camera preview shows you how these changes affect the image.

To prevent these preferences from being overwritten by another application, you can have CameraController read and push settings automatically at a certain interval. You can also save your settings to profiles and load them depending on what you need to capture.

If you want to avoid clogging your Mac with bloated device management software that eats up system resources, or your webcam lacks suck software, CameraController is an excellent stand-in. It’s small, open-source, and very easy to use.
