Calendr For Mac

A useful function on Windows, which isn’t available on macOS, is that you can click the time in your system tray to open a small calendar. On macOS, this opens your widgets, and while you can add a calendar there, it isn’t easy to interact with.

Calendr aims to add this feature to your Mac, acting as a replacement for the native date display in macOS. When you click it, you get access to a small calendar that lists all your events, and shortcuts to the full calendar and your reminders.

Once you’ve launched this app, you should probably go ahead and disable the native date display, leaving only the clock in your menu bar. Put that next to Calendr, and you will have both the time and date, with the latter including a calendar as well.

Then, just click the date whenever you want to check the calendar. Events are highlighted, and you can hover over any of them to view more details. You can also open the full calendar and your reminders using the shortcuts at the bottom of the window.

The UI is well-designed, but I would recommend increasing its transparency slightly to help it blend better with the rest of the system UI. You can also zoom it in slightly, remove the date or icon from the menu bar, and select your preferred date format.

One helpful feature is the ability to pin the calendar to your desktop. If you need to check some dates while working with another app, it’s nice not to have to open it again whenever you click away.

As expected, you can select the calendars you want to include, should you only with to have certain events highlighted.

Calendr is a great app for anyone who needs a quick access calendar for day-to-day use. It is very easy to set up, intuitive to use, and completely free.
