Create custom rules by which links will be automatically sent to specific web browsers installed on your Mac, instead of using only the default one #Send to browser #Change default browser #Link manager #Send #Browser #Web browser
Sending all links to a single default browser is just not suitable in all cases and usually leads to clutter. The most frequently used workaround is to copy the links to your clipboard and then manually paste them into a web browser of your choice.
BrowserFreedom acknowledges this and proposes an alternative solution: all the links will be sent to BrowserFreedom and the utility makes sure to distribute them according to user-defined rules.
To start using the BrowserFreedom application, you must set the utility to be the system’s default web browser. The procedure can be reversed any time you like via the General panel included in the System Preferences window.
This way you can ensure that all links will pass through the BrowserFreedom filter. Within BrowserFreedom’s main window you can both set the browser that will be used by default when no other rules apply, and start creating custom filters.
BrowserFreedom allows you set the web browser that should be used when the URL is sent from a specific app, hosted on a particular domain, or has a particular path, scheme, or extension. You can add as many filters as you like to the same rule to get more refined results.
To help you create efficient filters, BrowserFreedom displays an example format in the bottom area of the configuration panel, but there is no extensive documentation explaining how all the filters work, which might lead to some frustrating situations.
If you don’t want to rely on the BrowserFreedom set of rules, or you don’t have one setup for the current situation, by holding down the Option key while clicking on a link you can bring up a BrowserFreedom contextual menu that includes all the web browsers installed on your system
Moreover, BrowserFreedom also allows you to set a hotkey for changing the default web browser without going through the app’s main panel.
BrowserFreedom can streamline the way in which you are handling your links, even if you don’t want to take the time to set custom rules.
