Trigger custom scripts on your Mac with the help of a Bluetooth enabled devices in order to protect your desktop from prying eyes, and so on. #Monitor Bluetooth signal #Script launcher #System automation #Monitor #Bluetooth #Launcher
BlueSense resides in your status bar monitoring your Bluetooth connection to a mobile device in order to help you trigger custom AppleScripts whenever the signal is lost, or when the device is detected again.
Right off the bat, BlueSense places a small menulet in your status bar, and you must navigate to its window and select the Bluetooth device you want to monitor. Naturally, you must ensure the Bluetooth controller is active on both devices.
BlueSense will start monitoring the Bluetooth signal, and you get to see a graphic representation in the app’s main panel. Note that BlueSense also comes with a bar graph for the signal, and you get to adjust the detection sensitivity with drag and drop actions.
The next step is to navigate to the BlueSense Scripts panel and select the AppleScripts you want automatically triggered whenever the signal is lost, or the device is detected again. Just navigate to the Scripts folder and pick the ones you want to employ.
Worth mentioning is that you get to find a couple of sample scripts on the developer’s website: you can download the archive and move the scripts to the appropriate location on your drive.
On the other hand, the same online resource provides details and instructions on how to create your own custom scripts. This way, you can use BlueSense and a Bluetooth device to perform a wide array of actions, not only ones related to your desktop’s security.
To sum up, BlueSense can track the signal strength of any Bluetooth connection and can automatically run custom AppleScripts.
The drawback is that, during our tests on a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac with 6GB RAM running El Capitan, BlueSense would on occasion use about 90% of the CPU and lose the Bluetooth signal even if the paired device was right next to the Mac computer.
