An unobtrusive Mac OS X solution created to free system resources and extend battery life by throttling the processes of several popular applications #Extend battery life #Free system resources #Throttle apps #Extend #Battery life #Throttle
BatterySqueezer is a low-key and lightweight Mac OS X utility designed to throttle processes that run in the background, thus reducing CPU load and prolonging the life of your MacBook's battery.
BatterySqueezer works with popular Internet browsers (Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera) and with Microsoft Office for Mac products, such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook.
In general, these applications are usually resource hungry and take a substantial amount of CPU power, even when running in the background. BatterySqueezer was created to automatically throttle the processes of these applications when they’re in the background.
Note that BatterySqueezer can not throttle applications that are not in the background. This means that if you’re working in Safari, for instance, BatterySqueezer can not throttle it when Safari’s main window is in the forefront. It can only throttle its resources when inactive.
More specifically, BatterySqueezer stops webpages which contain videos, ads, JavaScripts, Flash animations, etc. from draining resources. After BatterySqueezer stop them from putting a load on your Mac’s resources, the apps will consume almost zero CPU power.
BatterySqueezer provides a menu bar icon where you can start or stop the throttling process or access the app’s Preferences window. From the preferences, you can hand pick which Internet browsers and MS Office product you want to be affected by BatterySqueezer. You can adjust the background application responseness in seconds.
It’s also mentioned that the longer the interval, the more system resources will be available. Other bonus options include the ability to set the app to automatically run at login and hide the dock icon.
To check the validity of BatterySqueezer, you can monitor the resources consumed by the aforementioned browsers and MS products before and after activating BatterySqueezer’s throttle function.
