BatteryNotifier is an unobtrusive OS X application that can help you keep track of your iOS devices and never forget that you need to charge them. The utility can monitor the battery status for all iOS devices that use your WiFi network or are connected to your Mac via USB.
Upon launch, BatteryNotifier starts listening for devices connected to the same WiFi network as your Mac and places a small menu in your status bar. All the detected devices will be added to the BatteryNotifier menu, together with their name and a graphical representation of their battery status.
Via the BatteryNotifier Preferences, you can also choose to include in the menu the battery level expressed in percents, so you can know exactly where you stand on each device.
For BatteryNotifier to be able to grab the battery status, within the iTunes application you must configure the iOS devices to sync via WiFi. On the other hand, the devices connected via USB are added to the list almost instantly.
During our tests, we have noticed that BatteryNotifier uses as the status bar icon the graphic representation for the battery of one of the monitored iOS devices.
The app is using color codes to point out the devices that are currently charging or need to be connected to a power source. Note that BatteryNotifier can detect if a device is charging even if it is not attached to the computer via USB.
BatteryNotifier comes with a Notification Center widget that puts the battery status info in your Today panel, but can also send alerts whenever the battery level drops below a certain threshold.
BatteryNotifier is making use of the service announcements broadcasted periodically by iOS devices connected to a WiFi network to help you monitor the battery status for each mobile gadget remotely.
If the battery level gets below a user-defined threshold, BatteryNotifier makes use of the Notification Center to let you know that you need to charge your device.
