Tockler (formerly Backer Timetracker) is designed to monitor your activity and create time charts based on the used windows. Moreover, the utility can also track the idle time and creates a list that includes all the apps you have handled and when.
When you launch Tockler for the first time, the app should prompt you to grant it permission to control your Mac, but during our tests, this did not occur. However, the app requires this permission to monitor your activity, so you must deal with the configuration on your own.
Just open the System Preferences, navigate to the Security & Privacy panel, jump to the Accessibility list, and check the box associated with the Tockler application. Naturally, you need to provide the admin passkey to be able to make the adjustments.
Once this is taken care of, Tockler will instantly start monitoring your windows, and you will be able to see the data in the app’s main window. Note that Tockler will log only the window title.
Tockler automatically generates time charts depicting the apps you were using, the items you are tracking, and your online, offline, or idle status. You can choose to log work items and associate a different color to each entry.
Moreover, Tockler provides the same information is list mode and generates a summary of your activity. This way, you can see when you started or stopped working in a particular window, how much time you spent on a particular project, and so on.
The Tockler app’s window is designed to cover your entire screen, but you can effortlessly toggle its visibility with the help of the companion status bar menulet.
To sum up, Tockler can keep track of everything you do on your Mac, without breaching your privacy: only logs the window titles, the apps that you use, the online or offline status, and so on.
Nonetheless, the utility does not have an exporting or backup function, so it might not be the best solution for historical activity logging.
