User-friendly Homebrew GUI that provides an accessible way to find, install, and update applications available via the popular macOS package manager. #Homebrew GUI #App Installer #App Manager #Homebrew #Cask #Installer
Homebrew simplifies the installation of software using the macOS Terminal, but not everyone is happy with using the command-line.
Applite aims to take the benefits of Homebrew and squeeze them into a user-friendly interface, allowing anyone to install, update, and manage installed apps with just a few clicks. It’s open-source, Swift-based, and very intuitive.
The great benefit of installing an application with Homebrew is that the whole process is reduced to one Terminal command. You can either paste the command directly or type it if you know what the package is called.
Applite takes advantage of this simple architecture, relying on Homebrew to install software. It adds a GUI that makes installations even simpler, while also allowing you to find and update your software from one interface.
Assuming the package manager is already installed, you can just point the app to its path and start looking for software right away. Applications are organized into relevant categories and sorted alphabetically or based on the number of downloads. A search function is also available.
Everything is remarkably straightforward, and the user interface is very well designed. However, it would be great if apps could be shown in a list, with smaller icons, so as to have more items visible at once and minimize the amount of empty space.
Once you’ve installed some software, Applite will check for new releases and notify you if anything needs to be updated. This is a very useful feature for apps that don’t have built-in auto-update functionality, and it sure beats downloading new releases manually. Uninstalling is just a matter of clicking a button.
In short, Applite is an amazing app installer that makes Homebrew packages accessible to all users. It’s lightweight, easy to use, and efficient, and it allows you to install any application available as a Homebrew package, which includes most popular software.
