AppGenome For Mac

AppGenome eliminates the need to get different desktop client apps for each website your want to access outside the browser. The utility comes with a collection of configuration presets that cover social networks or news services, but you can use it with virtually any URL.

Working with the AppGenome app might prove to be slightly confusing considering that there are no separate app menus. All the adjustments made in the Setup panel are instantly applied to the current status bar app, so you cannot directly open multiple websites at the same time.

You get to bypass this issue by generating new applications using the current settings: just save them to your drive and launch them separately like you would do with any other utility.

Worth mentioning is that you can save modifications made to the client via the AppGenome Setup panel: the next time you launch the app generated by the AppGenome utility, you will be able to view the effects.

Within the AppGenome configuration panel, you get to set a name for the new app and provide the source URL. For your convenience, AppGenome comes with a collection of presets organized into different categories: social networks, email, news, weather, cloud, and miscellaneous.

By default, AppGenome will load the desktop version of the website, but you can also switch to the mobile agent. You get to adjust the popover width and choose to see the navigation controls.

AppGenome uses the website’s favicon as the status bar icon, automatically determines the window height based on the desktop size, and comes with a contextual menu that enables you to change the origin URL, send the link to the clipboard, or to your default browser.

Even through AppGenome should integrate a real-time preview function for the embedded links, during our tests (performed on two separate Macs running OS X 10.11 and 10.12) we have not been able to use the function: you should be able to activate the function by using the middle button of your mouse or the trackpad.

Bottom line, AppGenome brings the support for creating desktop clients for any URL by merely providing the respective link.

The AppGenome utility allows you to switch between the desktop and mobile version of the website, permits you to resize the popover window, and integrates simple yet efficient navigation tools.
