Weather Dock For Mac

Apple doesn’t seem to be planning to add weather info to the menu bar, so unless widgets are your thing, a third-party app is what you need. There are plenty to go around, but they’re usually either too simple or not free.

Weather Dock doesn’t seem to suffer from either of these drawbacks. You can use it for free, though a paid tier is available, but it gives you more weather information than most other apps.

To start with, the app displays the current temperature in the menu bar, along with other optional information, such as the feels like temperature, unit of temperature, weather description, and the city name.

By default, the app shows the weather in the current location. To change it, click the menu bar icon to bring up the extra information panel. The location name is actually an editable text field, so just click it and type a different one.

Aside from the temperature, you get the current humidity, wind speed, pressure, sunrise and sunset times, and air quality. For the latter, hover over the air quality indicator to view additional details.

The app also provides an hourly forecast for the current location, along with a daily forecast for the next week. If you hover over any of the daily forecasts, you can see more information for each of these days as well.

As long as you don’t need to monitor multiple locations at once, Weather Dock should be an ideal app for most users. You can change the location at any time, but only one can be watched at the same time.

You have all the basic information you need visible in the menu bar at all times, and the additional data available on clicking the icon is more than enough for all but the most nerdy weather enthusiasts.
