When used in combination with a printer-compatible CUPS-based printer driver, usbtb provides easy-to-use, high-performance printing. The installer for usbtb reduces administration burdens by automating the task of configuring, creating, and verifying new system printer queues.

usbtb is simple to use, and will require no special effort on the part of the end user. Once a printer queue has been configured to use usbtb (typically done when the queue is created) no additional effort will be necessary to begin printing.

usbtb performs all of its required functions transparently in the background. In other words, usbtb is maintenance free!

Apart from its efficient, high-speed performance, usbtb also provides certain enhanced features over the standard usb backend driver. When usbtb detects a recoverable hardware error condition, such as out-of-paper, the driver posts a sequence of error-specific recovery instructions to the queue window of the affected printer.

For most Epson and HP inkjet printers, usbtb will query the printer for ink cartridge level data. If a printer responds to the query then ink-level status will be displayed periodically in the queue window during printing.
