Menu bar system monitoring app that lets you keep an eye on your CPU, GPU, memory, network usage, battery, Bluetooth devices, and more. #System Monitor #CPU Monitor #Temperature Monitor #Monitor #CPU #Battery
Monitoring your Mac's hardware is pretty difficult via macOS, as Apple hasn't really provided us with a lot of tools for the task. Thankfully, third-party apps that fill the gap are plentiful.
eul is an open-source Swift-based app that does a good job of helping you track the status of your components, such as CPU, GPU, Memory, Battery, as well as connected Bluetooth devices and disk usage. It runs in the menu bar and is highly customizable, but it doesn't yet offer full support for M1 Macs.
When you run the app for the first time, you'll see a bunch of new items in your menu bar. A lot of trackers are included by default, but you can disable the ones you don't need. The refresh interval can be set to 1, 3, or 5 seconds.
The font is quite tiny, but if you choose to monitor only one parameter for each component, it will be a lot easier to read. Alternatively, you can switch to "single line" text display, which maintains a larger font for all readings.
Most users are only going to be interested in one or two parameters, such as CPU temperature or network usage. You can choose which components are shown in the menu bar, as well as which parameters should be monitored for each component.
When you click the icon, you get a menu view that lists all gathered data. You can also remove certain components from this menu if you really aren't interested in them. Some widgets are also available for monitoring your CPU, RAM, network usage, and battery level.
While this may only be one parameter, it's something most users look for in a monitoring tool, since CPU temperature is difficult to ascertain and can be quite helpful. This feature works on Intel Macs, but M1 devices are not yet supported.
Overall, eul is a pretty impressive open-source hardware monitoring tool. It's written in SwiftUI, so it's highly efficient, and it can be customized to a great extent. We just need full support for M1 Macs, and it will be a top choice.
