Simple yet customizable app that prevents your Mac and display from going to sleep for a certain amount of time, while also blocking screensavers #Prevent Sleep #Keep Awake #Block Sleep #Sleep #Awake #Screensaver
This isn't the first, and it definitely won't be the last app designed to keep your Mac awake when you have work to do. It isn't a game-changer by any means, but it does offer a great alternative to the existing options.
Essentially, Caffeinated lets you disable the macOS sleep functionality at any given time with a single click, either temporarily or indefinitely. It is much more convenient than modifying your Energy Saver settings, as it is accessible directly from the menu bar.
Of course, you can configure your computer to enter sleep mode or at least turn off your display after a period of inactivity. But what if you want to keep your Mac awake for a specific task without modifying your Energy Saver settings, which you are happy with the rest of the time?
Well, Caffeinated allows you to disable your computer's sleep function for anywhere between 15 minutes to 12 hours, or even indefinitely. All you have to do is right-click the menu bar icon or select the preferred duration from the drop-down menu.
Last but not least, all screensavers will be blocked while the app is active, preventing any unduly interruptions while you have important work to do.
As you may be aware, there are quite a few apps out there that offer similar functionality. So how is Caffeinated better than any of them, given that most are also free?
Well, this app has a few things going for it. It features a modern, lightweight and very intuitive design, which can't be said for all of the alternatives. A single click of the menu bar icon is all it takes to enable or disable it, and there is even a configurable global hotkey for this purpose.
Functionality-wise, the app can allow your display to sleep while keeping your Mac awake, something many similar apps aren't capable of. It can also show a notification when the timer has run out and sleep mode is enabled again, which should help you avoid unexpected blackouts or screensavers.
From what I've seen, Caffeinated doesn't have any drawbacks. It worked perfectly for me, and it offers pretty much every feature I could expect from such an app. It's intuitive and highly configurable, so you can't really go wrong with it.
