XtreemFS is an open-source, distributed and replicated file system for cloud based IT infrastructures.
XtreemFS can be installed on various data centers and can handle all types of failures occurring in wide-area installations.
The other main aspect is replication, meaning that XtreemFS can easily replicate your files across data centers. This makes it reduce latency and bandwidth consumption.

XtreemFS is cross-platform and it works on Mac OS X and Linux. Binaries for the Linux and Linux platforms are available on the project's homepage.
System requirements
What's new in XtreemFS 1.5.1:
- Hadoop Adapter supports Hadoop-2.x and other applications running on the YARN platform (tested with Apache Spark and Apache Flink), new OSD selection policy that imitates the HDFS placement behavior.
- Consistent adding and removing replicas for R/W replication.
- xtfs_scrup now replaces failed replicas using the R/W replication policy.
- Improvements of the SSL mode: the used SSL/TLS version is selectable, strict certificate chain checks are possible, the SSL code on client and server side was improved.
