XQuartz For Mac

Xquartz bundles the most important libraries that you need in order to effortlessly and seamlessly run X Window based applications on a Mac.

XQuartz became the default X11 implementation for many users after the 10.8 iteration, when Apple decided to completely remove the X11 server and client libraries from the default OS X installation.

Moreover, XQuartz is an Apple and community supported project, designed to keep improving support for X11 apps on the OS X platform.

After installing Xquartz on your computer, you will be able to run your X11 applications and to also add shortcuts or duplicate them, if you want to.

From XQuartz’s Output Preferences tab you can choose the desired colors and to enable its fullscreen mode. It should be noted though that in order to apply the new colors you chose, you must also relaunch the X11 system.

XQuartz also enables you to modify Pasteboard actions like syncing. Thus, you can opt for configuring it to automatically update the Pasteboard when detecting clipboard changes and to update PRIMARY when Pasteboard changes.

In the Windows tab you can click through inactive windows and enable a feature that will enable the focus to follow the cursor in the foreground window.

You can also enable the creation of a new X11 window which will cause the currently running X11 application to go into the background.

What’s more, you can enable security options like authenticating connections or, if you’re not a security freak, to allow incoming  connections from various network clients on your LAN.

Its most important advantage is that it allows you to run X11 applications on your Mac without any other preparations, except installing XQuartz.

You don't need to do anything else because XQuartz will automatically take care of configuring the app’s environment and dependencies so that you can use your X11 applications.
