Place a Trash icon on your desktop that allows you to delete items, check the trash, and even empty it, all while the Dock is hidden #Trash Icon #Desktop Trash #Move Trash #Trash #Desktop #Icon
Most Mac users are accustomed to removing files and accessing deleted items from the Trash icon in the Dock. However, particularly on smaller displays, keeping the Dock hidden is common, which makes it difficult to delete files and restore them without interrupting your workflow.
TrashEye gets around this potential issue by placing the Trash icon on the desktop. It allows you to delete items by dropping them as usual, as well as access the contents of the bin and empty it. What’s more, it shows you a useful file counter at all times.
Having the trash can on the desktop is nothing unusual, as Windows users will agree. This implementation works quite well, with its functionality being virtually identical to the regular icon you find in your Dock.
Just like the Dock, the newly-added trash icon is always visible on top of other windows. By default, it can also be seen in full screen mode, but you’re probably going to want to disable this.
One of the ways this app seeks to improve on macOS is by showing you how many items are in the trash at any given time. This can be useful, but the badge is quite large, and it cannot be resized or disabled. While some will appreciate the extra visibility, it can be distracting to others.
Speaking of customization, you can move the icon to any position on your desktop from the context menu. You can also set up a hotkey for opening the trash folder and hide the optional menu bar icon.
It would be nice to see some more personalization options regarding the file counter badge, which will stand out on your Mac’s desktop. Other than that, though, the app works great, and we can only assume it will be perfected as it approaches an official release.
