It’s easy enough to schedule an app to be launched at login on macOS, but there’s no way to control its behavior, should you wish to hide it, delay its startup, or change its priority.
StartupManager provides an upgrade to the OS’s capabilities, allowing you to create multiple startup lists, organize applications within them, hide them once launched, delay them, and more. It’s free and very easy to use.
You’ll start by adding one or more apps to the list, which can be done with drag and drop or by navigating to their location. Once imported, apps can be moved up or down to change their startup order.
Interestingly, you can create multiple lists of apps, in the idea that you will select the right one based on what you’ll use your Mac for the next time it’s launched.
Possibly the most useful function is one that allows you to keep an application hidden when launched. In most cases, you don’t want a dozen windows popping up on your screen when you boot up your Mac, even if you need them to be open.
There’s also the option to delay startup, which has plenty of potential uses. Perhaps an app relies on a network connection or requires a VPN to be active, and it may take a while for those to come online.
Speaking of network access, you can specify which of your startup apps require it. If no networks are available, those launches will be skipped, as the apps wouldn’t be able to function anyway.
StartupManager is a great replacement for the built-in startup app launcher. It offers more features, enabling you to customize how apps are launched and switch between startup sets depending on what you’ll be using the device for. It’s also free, so what’s not to like.
