RAID software solution for macOS that offers you the possibility to test your drives and monitoring their status in order to prevent failures #RAID software #Test drive #Monitor drive status #RAID #Test #Monitor
SoftRAID Lite is a disk drive testing and monitoring solution designed to be a viable replacement for AppleRAID.
This lite edition of the SoftRAID app packs the same disk certification and monitoring functions, yet you cannot receive alerts by emails, the command line interface is not available, and the support is limited to the online forum.
Upon launch, SoftRAID Lite checks if you have the correct SoftRAID driver installed: if not, the utility is able to download and deploy the appropriate driver on its own. Moreover, SoftRAID Lite automatically detects all connected disks and the associated volumes.
Most disk analysis tools, which have quite self-explanatory names, can be accessed either via contextual menus or with the help of the status bar menus.
Note that the SoftRAID Lite software archive also includes a Quick Start guide that can help you find your way around while the built-in help provides more detailed information about creating or deleting volumes, maintaining disks, and so on.
When dealing with drives, SoftRAID Lite offers you the option to initialize them as RAID disks, to verify or certify their integrity, to add labels, to see the zero sectors, or to clear the I/O counters.
SoftRAID Lite is able to work with non-RAID, stripe (RAID 0) or mirror volumes (RAID 1). You have the option to create SoftRAID volumes in no time, and the app can validate their integrity, disable journaling or the safeguard, make them read-only, or optimize their performance for a particular type of usage (workstation, server, digital video, digital audio, or digital photography).
To conclude, SoftRAID Lite packs together disk drive and volume analysis and monitoring tools that can help you detect the ones that need to be changed before failing and leading to data loss.
What's new in SoftRAID Lite 5.8.4:
- New features in version 5.8.4:
- Adds a feature which warns the user if Secure Boot is enabled. This warning appears when the SoftRAID application is first launched, Secure Boot is enable and a SoftRAID disk is attached.
- Adds ability to sign up for the SoftRAID News email list.
- Adds a work-around for a kernel panic bug which was introduced in macOS 10.15. This bug causes a kernel panic when an HFS+ volume is created on a 4Kn HDD (a disk with 4 KB sectors) which is housed in a USB 3 or USB 3.1 enclosure.
