Shifty For Mac

Even though its name might raise some eyebrows, Shifty's feature collection will quickly bring them back down as it has been designed to extend Night Shift's feature pack and make any Mac's displays even more friendly after sunset.

If you haven't yet gotten acquainted with Apple's Night Shift, it is a macOS feature created to automatically shift your monitors' colors to a warmer tint on the color spectrum, thus lowering the amount of blue light to once it gets dark outside.

Having warmer colors on your Mac's display after dark has been proven to make it easier to get to sleep although it might sound like hocus pocus. As a plus, your circadian rhythm will also thank you for having your internal body clock work like a metronome 24 hours per day, seven days a week.

Even though Night Shift works very well as it is, it does lack some features, and Shifty adds them to your Mac's menu bar and makes them readily available via its status bar menu.

Thus, once installed and launched on your Mac, you can rapidly toggle Night Shift on and off with a simple mouse click on Shifty's status bar item after you enable the "Quickly Toggle" option within the app's preferences.

Once this option is enabled, Shifty's menu bar icon will act as a toggle button, but you will still be able to access its menu with a right click of your mouse.

From the Preferences window, you can also configure Shifty to be launched automatically on system start up, to have all the extra features it adds to Night Shift available right after logging in.

Shifty also enables you to customize the color temperature level using a slider control and, most importantly, to disable Night Shift for the current foreground application, a long awaited and coveted feature which Apple might not ever include.

Via Shifty's status bar menu you can disable Night Shift altogether either for a fixed one-hour interval or for a custom amount of time if needed.

If you've been using Night Shift since Apple added it to macOS Sierra, we're sure that you've also wanted at least a couple of additional features to make it a little more customizable and capable of replacing apps like F.lux and Iris.

Well, after installing Shifty, Night Shift will most likely feel like a complete, easily customizable and production-ready macOS feature for power users, just like it was supposed to be on its launch.
