Lockdown For Mac

Lockdown is an easy to use macOS utility based on the osxlockdown open source project that provides a command line tool for auditing your system’s security settings and making adjustments if necessary.

Within the Lockdown user interface, you get access to all the capabilities osxlockdown has to offer, except that you get to handle everything by ticking checkboxes and pressing buttons instead of typing commands in the Terminal.

Moreover, keep in mind that the same osxlockdown warnings apply to the Lockdown applications: disabling certain functions in the name of security might result in limiting your system’s capabilities. You are advised to backup your system before using the tool.

The Lockdown main window contains a list of configurations that Lockdown can either audit or fix. Keep in mind that you are not bound to allow Lockdown to fix all of them: tick or untick the associated check boxes as you see fit.

If you choose to use the Lockdown Audit function, the app will check the status of the currently selected settings, display the information, and award a final score to your system. You also get to see the device’s serial number and the Hardware UUID.

To change the respective configurations to a state that ensures the system’s security, make sure to press the Fix button. You get to monitor the process in the Lockdown main window and see the appropriate tag next to each setting: passed or fixed.

Bottom line, Lockdown is a minimalist macOS utility that checks the status of specific settings that might make your system vulnerable to hacking.

However, it is worth mentioning that disabling some of these functions might impede using your computer at its full capacity, so you might want to preserve some of the settings even if they represent a security risk.
