IntelliDock For Mac

While Apple provides a few configuration options for the Dock, they're not enough for everyone. You have an option to hide the Dock unless the cursor is moved to the edge of the desktop, but it's not possible to always show it unless a window is moved over it.

That's exactly what IntelliDock does — when a window overlaps the Dock, the latter is hidden automatically. The end result is that you have more screen space at your disposal, and you can still bring up the Dock by moving the cursor near the edge of the screen.

IntelliDock actually uses the Automatically hide and show the Dock feature from macOS, just in a different way. When you move a window near the Dock, the feature is enabled, and it is disabled once more when the window is moved away.

There is one big advantage to using this method: since the app enables the existing macOS Dock auto-hide feature when a window is moved on top, you will also be able to reveal the Dock again by moving the cursor near it.

This is a very simple app, and it works flawlessly. It will never hide your Dock unless a window overlaps it, in which case you probably need some extra space.

You can also configure how close to the Dock a window needs to be in order to be hidden. This can range from a couple of inches away to right on top of the Dock. You can change this setting from the menu bar.

IntelliDock works particularly well with apps that allow you to snap windows to the edges or corners of your screen, as you won't have the Dock covering part of the window. But even if you don't use a window manager, this app gives you the option to take advantage of extra screen space any time you want to.
