HiDock For Mac

The macOS Dock can be customized, but it will use the same settings no matter the current display configuration. If you want to change the dimensions or position of the Dock when connected to an external monitor, or hide it entirely, you have to manually change these settings every time.

HiDock is designed to automate this process depending on which display is being used at any given time. When you connect or disconnect a monitor, your Dock settings will update without any user input.

The app runs in the menu bar, and you can bring up the settings window from there. You can customize your preferences for the built-in display, external displays, and multiple monitors.

For each of these scenarios, you can hide or show the Dock, move it to the bottom or sides of the screen, and change its size. Settings can be previewed, and once the app is running, transitions will be handled automatically.

The available settings should be enough for any display setup you have in mind. The app can be launched at login and even hidden from the menu bar to keep its functionality entirely in the background.

One limitation is that HiDock doesn’t give you the same degree of fine-tuning as System Settings when it comes to the Dock’s size. There are a series of steps, but you can’t set the size to anything between these.

On the whole, HiDock does a great job. It’s a very lightweight app that will run in the menu bar and can be hidden completely once it has been configured. The only issue is the lack of Dock size fine-tuning, but this probably won’t be a dealbreaker for most users.
