Battery technology still has a long way to go, and modern devices commonly become obsolete due to battery degradation, which is exacerbated when they are kept for long periods at a very high or very low charge.

Apple has rolled out its own Optimized Battery Charging feature to prevent devices from charging past 80% when it wouldn’t be an inconvenience, but this automated system only really works for people with predictable schedules.

BatFi is a third-party solution that gives you full control over how your device is charged, making it easy to optimize batter lifespan even if you have a hectic schedule. By default, it will only allow your device to be charged up to a preset limit, with the option to charge to 100% with a single click.

The app also provides detailed battery information in the menu bar, and it can disable charging automatically if the battery exceeds a certain temperature. If it has been charged over the limit, the app can also attempt to discharge it.

BatFi is designed to be unobtrusive, and the menu bar icon can be customized to suit your preferences. Once you’ve set everything up, you shouldn’t need to access the app again for anything other than charging your device to 100% when necessary.
